Accompanist Alma Sloboda grew up in Athabasca, Alberta, where she began piano studies at an early age and soon began playing in her church. She would later move to Calgary where she completed her piano studies, earning an A.R.C.T. in Performance. She taught piano for many years, and as a church musician for most of her life, has also played for countless services, performances, funerals and weddings.
Alma is especially drawn to, and has a flair for, gospel music, which she attributes to a childhood growing up in a small country church that had a vibrant musical congregation, including many African American immigrants from the deep South.
Alma is currently church musician at St. John Lutheran Church and is accompaniast for both the Westside Singers and the Corpus Christi Male Chorale.
